What types of food production are suited to the facility?
Given the history of the former Nanaimo Bakery, much of our equipment is ideal for sweet or savoury confectionery. Our current renters produce an array of breads, buns, cakes, pastries, pizza and more. Our ovens can also be used for roasting meats.
Our Wash and Pack Station and Prep Tables also are convenient for processing fresh foods like salads, dips, charcuterie boards, or
We do not have a commercial cook top and deep frying is not permitted.
How do I apply?
The first step to joining is to complete our application and come for a site tour. We will discuss your kitchen vision and schedule to see if we will be a good match.

Once this application is received our Community Kitchen Manager will reach out to schedule your visit.
What are your rates?
Rates for work stations start at $15 per hour with additional fees for oven use and storage. Discounts are available for nonprofits and monthly billed renters.
We also require a $200 registration fee when signing on for ongoing kitchen use or a $200 damage deposit for single event bookings. Please contact the Kitchen Manager for rates specific to your experience.
Do I get storage space?
Storage allotments are based on time used in the kitchen. We have temporary use allotments in our cooler, freezer and dry storage for renters under 20 hours per month, providing more permanent designated space with increased usage in the kitchen based on need and availability.
What is included in my fees?
Our rates include:
- Sanitation supplies including disposable gloves, hairnets, cleaning chemicals, and rag service
- Waste disposal for garbage, recycling, and compost
- WiFi Internet connection, with a secure connection for payment processing devices
- Security systems including Ring alarm and security cameras
- Lockers and a break room
How do I schedule time to work?
We use The Food Corridor platform for scheduling and billing for the time you are working in the space. You can adjust or cancel your bookings up to 24 hours in advance
When can I access the building?
Our building is accessible to renters 24/7 with a Ring security system code to arm and disarm the space when not in use. We also have security cameras throughout the facility for the safety and security of our members.
