Our Facility

Our 3000+ square foot facility, formerly home to the legendary Nanaimo Bakery, is full of equipment that still serves this purpose best. Our deck and convection ovens produce dozens of loaves a day alongside other baked goods like pizza, cakes, cookies, muffins, and more. Our walk in cooler and freezer are shared amongst more than a baker’s dozen working groups.

Note: Our kitchen DOES NOT have a commercial stove top. Induction burners may be used for minimal cooking needs and the residential stove in the Teaching Kitchen may be used by commercial renters ONLY when other social purpose programming is not taking place.

The Teaching Kitchen

Newly renovated to serve in alignment with the charitable purposes of Island Crisis Care Society, the Teaching Kitchen was designed as a residential style space to feel like home.

The Teaching Kitchen is furnished with:

12 feet of stainless steel counter workspace
Residential stove for cooking
Residential fridge for day-use cold storage
Adjustable height table
Double sink for food preparation

Equipment includes:

A microwave
A KitchenAid Mixer with whisk, beater and pasta attachments
Ninja Blender
Ninja Food Processor
Vacuum Sealer
Canning equipment
A bread machine
Assortment of kitchen hand tools

The Wash and Pack Station

The Prep Tables

Two prep tables, side by side with electrical outlet access to plug in a small appliance at your station. Renters choose either the “Cooler Side” for non-baking work, or the “Oven Side” when booking along with our Bongard deck oven.

The Dish Pit

This is where you will find everything you need to keep your work station clean throughout your shift. Disposable gloves, hairnets, rag service, waste receptacles, mops, and all cleaning chemicals are stored in this area. The Hobart dishwasher keeps the dishes sanitized.
